Over the 10 years since Flex Tae Kwon Do Center opened their doors in Greensboro, NC, several students and their families have competed in Taekwondo tournaments with the most elite qualifying to attend National events. Several Flex students have become National champions. Among these champions are our coaches, 2X World Champion Grand Master Clarence Franklin and 7X National Champion Master Milady Jene.
In 2012, with the encouragement of many families at Flex, Team Shock was organized with fundraising encouraged to support all team members. Grand Master Franklin and Master Milady invite Flex students that exhibit drive, determination, and a superior attitude during all their regular classes. These students must also excel academically and in their communities. Hard work from these students is paying off and many are hopeful future National champions. There are currently 19 Team Shock members and two coaches. Unfortunately, the cost to attend these National events has prevented many young students from pursuing competitions beyond the local level even though they are elite caliber martial artists.
Many Flex members being dedicated runners are assisting in fundraising and hosting the It takes a VILLAGE 5K and Kid’s Jog-a-Thon on Saturday, June 15th starting at 9:00 am. This fundraiser will help support Team Shock competitors who have qualified to attend the 2013 AAU Taekwondo Nationals held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The tournament will run from July 1st - 5th 2013 with 3000+ expected competitors attending from all over the United States and Puerto Rico. All past and current results for this event can be seen at www.aautaekwondo.org. Tournament expenses including hotel, travel, food, competitor fees, and spectator fees per family easily exceed $2,500.
